Layered One-dish Salad

  

You could easily add any pasta such as macaroni or orzo, (just to name two) to this recipe for variety to the one-dish salads theme.

head lettuce, shredded

 

1/2 cup 

 

celery, chopped

 

1/2 cup 

 

green pepper, chopped

 

1/2 cup 

 

onion, sliced

 

1

 

package frozen peas

 

Topping:

 

2 cups 

 

mayonnaise

 

2 Tbs 

 

sugar

 

1 cup 

 

Cheddar cheese, grated

slices bacon, fried and crumble (or bacon bits)

 

 

 

 

Layer vegetables in a 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle with sugar. Spread mayonnaise over top of salad, covering completely. Sprinkle cheese and bacon on top. Cover and refrigerate. Best when made the day ahead. Note: you could also add sliced or chopped egg in a layer.

 

 

Yield: 4-8 depending on side dish or main dish
